Course History

Los Robles Greens opened in the early 1960s as the Conejo Valley's municipal course — the club's own history credits architect William F. Bell and dates the course to 1960, while course databases list a 1964 opening and credit Bob E. Baldock, and both names remain attached to the terrain-hugging original design. Owned by the City of Thousand Oaks and managed today by Arcis Golf, it has served for decades as the area's public-golf anchor, with towering oaks (the "robles" of its name) framing nearly every fairway.

The course's defining modern chapter came in 2015–16, when Dana Fry and Jason Straka of Fry/Straka Global Golf Course Design led a sustainability-driven renovation. More than 30 acres of irrigated turf were removed, roughly 40 acres were naturalized with over 55,000 native and drought-resistant plants, and the bunkering was rebuilt in a naturalistic style. The project cut irrigation water use by about 25 percent, drew Design Excellence recognition from the American Society of Golf Course Architects in 2016, and took second place in Golf Inc.'s 2017 Renovation of the Year competition — turning a well-worn muni into a Southern California model for sustainable public golf.

Signature Holes

The par-3 2nd — about 160 yards from the back tee — is often cited as the signature hole, a demanding early one-shotter that asks for a precise iron right out of the gate. The clear back-nine centerpiece is the 14th, a 611-yard par 5 that is by far the longest hole on the card; its fairway pinches in about 150 yards from the green, where a deep hollow (formerly a lake) guards the left side. It is followed immediately by the 15th, a strong uphill par 4 with one of the narrowest driving corridors on the property. For pure difficulty, the 448-yard 7th plays as the No. 1 handicap hole — an oak-lined two-shotter that captures how Los Robles Greens defends par with trees, angles, and placement rather than raw length.
