Course guide
The maintained course record, presented separately from live booking and user reviews.
Alister MacKenzie and Robert Hunter worked on its design, and the course opened in 1929. It is one of MacKenzie’s California projects from the late 1920s, set in the Montecito landscape below the Santa Ynez Mountains.
The Alister MacKenzie Institute identifies Valley Club as a 1929 new build. Southern California Golf Association history also records the MacKenzie–Hunter collaboration. The club’s long-standing course is a distinct private layout at 1901 East Valley Road, rather than one of Santa Barbara’s public municipal courses.
The current USGA rating database lists the men’s Black 18-hole tee as par 72, 6,750 yards, rating 72.6 and slope 132. The club does not publish an open tee sheet; access remains by member arrangement.
The club serves members and member-arranged guests. Its public site and contact information are the starting points for an invited visit. The club address is 1901 East Valley Road, Montecito, and its main number is (805) 969-2215.
