Course description

The maintained course record, presented separately from live booking and user reviews.

Rancho La Quinta Country Club has two separate private 18-hole courses in its gated La Quinta community. This listing covers the Jerry Pate Course, a par-72 design with broad fairways, plateau greens, bunkers and lakes framed by the Santa Rosa Mountains. The Robert Trent Jones Jr. Course is a different layout on the same property. The club’s golf overview identifies Pate as the designer and describes the course as a parkland-style route in a desert setting.

A round on the Pate Course

The hole-by-hole course tour makes the strategy unusually easy to preview. Hole 1 is a mid-length par 4: a bunker guards the left side of the drive, then a split fairway offers different angles to a green protected by a pot bunker on the right and a deeper bunker on the left. On the par-5 second, a lake runs down the right and continues behind the raised green. The short third is a par 3 with a pot bunker in front and a subtle two-tier putting surface. Together, those opening holes introduce the positioning, water and elevated greens that recur around the course.

The ninth offers another split fairway, with the higher left side giving the preferred line into a green angled away from that approach. On the back nine, water borders the right of the eleventh and the left of the twelfth. The long par-5 seventeenth pairs a right-side water hazard with bunkers along the second-shot landing area; the final hole climbs toward an elevated green after a valley across the approach. These specific hole descriptions come from the club’s tour, so players can plan their preferred lines before arriving.

Tees, practice and access

The USGA Course Rating Database lists the men’s Gold tees at 6,972 yards, par 72, with a 73.7 course rating and 134 slope. Other rated tee combinations are available, including shorter sets. The club’s golf overview also describes a laser-leveled driving range plus separate chipping, putting and bunker practice areas. Golf access is through club membership and permitted guests, rather than a public tee-time booking page; the membership page distinguishes resident golf membership from social memberships. Confirm guest play and entry with a member or the club before planning a round. The main clubhouse is at 79-301 Cascadas Circle, La Quinta, and the published clubhouse number is (760) 777-7748.
