Balboa Golf Course

Balboa is one of two public 18-hole courses at Los Angeles City Golf’s Sepulveda complex in Encino. The city’s Balboa page describes narrow, tree-lined fairways that ask for accurate tee shots, especially from players who usually rely on an open landing area. Encino is the companion course; a Balboa reservation is for this distinct layout.

The round

Balboa is a par-72 course. The city course page lists Black at 6,628 yards, Blue at 6,370, White at 6,115 and Yellow at 5,683. Its Black rating and slope are 70.5 and 116, while the city-linked scorecard prints 70.6 and 117 for the same named tee. Confirm the current rating with the golf shop before using it for handicapping. The narrow, tree-lined fairways make positioning important from every tee.

Before you go

Balboa and Encino share a lighted driving range, practice putting and chipping greens, a restaurant and lounge. The city course page also lists carts, rental clubs and instruction. The starter is at 16821 Burbank Boulevard; the city provides online booking and a phone reservation service from the same page. Check the course name and tee time before paying because both courses operate from the complex. For a shorter visit, the city lists nine-hole and twilight play, subject to available starting times; back-nine starts are limited to the first hour of daylight.
