The daily-fee layout plays across dramatic terrain framed by the San Gabriel Mountains, with two lakes, a winding creek, and more than fifty bunkers giving the course both scenery and teeth. From the back tees it stretches to 7,141 yards at a par of 72, rating out at 74.7 with a demanding slope of 143.
Angeles National opened for play in June 2004, bringing a full Jack Nicklaus design to the northeastern corner of the San Fernando Valley. Built on rolling land where the valley meets the foothills, the course carved fairways and greens out of rugged canyon terrain to create a championship-caliber public venue. It remains the only Nicklaus Design course in Los Angeles County and has become a fixture of Sunland-area golf, hosting tournaments, outings, and everyday play in a striking natural setting.
Nicklaus routed the course to take advantage of the mountain backdrop and natural water features, weaving two lakes and a creek through the property alongside more than fifty strategically placed bunkers. The bentgrass greens are known for running fast and firm, rewarding precise approach play, while the Tifway Bermuda fairways stay tight through the warm Southern California season. Elevation changes and desert-canyon framing give many holes a distinctly dramatic look, with the back tees stretching demands to a 74.7 rating and 143 slope.
